Falling Day Guide

Once you are lucky enough to get 6 Earthless Earth to upgrade your trinket, Allyiah will offer you the Fireless Fire quest. This quest asks you to complete the Falling Day instance. It's a solo instance that you can only access once you start getting the quest from Allyiah. Like the Windless Wind and the Earthless Earth before it, the Fireless Fire upgrades your trinket.

Falling Day lets you re-live the day that Freedom Harbor was attacked, and gives you a chance to be the hero that saves the Freedom Harbor citizens that we know so well, and lov-, well, we know them anyway. It's a bit confusing when you get in. There are people running, telling you to run. And then you see people asking for help. You unfortunately can't help them all. Your task is to help four familiar NPCs escape the attack. Once they are safe, the Legion Leader arrives for you to battle.

Here is my second try of this instance (first try was me wandering around trying to figure out where everyone was running to):

You don't have to kill the mobs, you just have to tank them. In fact, tanking is better than killing since they just respawn soon after they die and then kill your objective (as happened to me in this video). They are ADD; so if you're tanking them, don't move too fast. If you are melee, escort the npc closely and carefully; if you are range, you are golden on this part!
If you find you bit off more than you can chew, they lose interest in you so fast, so you can just kite the extras off you.

Ferrie is the first you have to save. He spawns at the fountain. Charlie comes up from the seaside boat-tavern once Ferrie is almost to the safe point. When Charlie is about halfway to safety, Rio appears in the library doorway - and he's slow....You will have to watch Rio, because he's trying hard not to look phased by it all. After Rio is halfway to his destination, Norcharden comes from the Ninth District stairs; and because Rio is so slow, you need to watch both very carefully. When Norchardens is about halfway to his destination, Henry arrives at the top of the Ninth District stairs. Henry, being blind, and likely under the influence, is dragging his feet as well. By this time, Rio has likely reached safety, so you only need to protect Norchardens and Henry.

Once all four NPCs are safe, all the Legion Soldiers disappear and the Legion Leader appears in front of the library entrance.

Every 30% of his total hp you knock out of the Legion Leader, he tells you that if you don't run he's going to kill you. But, it's what he says at 20% that you have to really pay attention to. He will tell you, "You are annoying. If you don't escape, I'm going to kill you in 20 seconds." You now have 20 seconds to kill him or he will one-shot you. Sounds pretty daunting, but there is an item that you can use against him at this point. You can pick up a projectile near the library that will take a huge chunk off his health. This projectile is there from the beginning and is not timed, so pick it up while you're defending Rio, before you go defend Ferrie, or while Henry is making it safely down the stairs before the boss appears. I was able to pick it up while things were attacking me.

Use it at the 20% point to bring his health down to just a few percent. Then, provided you can hit hard enough, fast enough, you should be able to kill him.

Good luck!

BTW: the instance is unlimited entry but only open on Wednesdays, is only open that day from 00:00 to 23:30, and is only open to those 95+.

Here is my full run of Falling Day:

[I like how YouTube picked for the cover the part where the astroplane menu pops up as my dog ran across my keyboard]

Tips on beating him at the end:
  • Get fully buffed for the instance - find an HR buffing party to get all the buffs you can
  • Save any finishing skills for the last 20 seconds
  • Make sure your pet is helping attack
  • He stuns, and likes to stun as you go into the 20 second countdown, so be ready to break out of stuns. Check your skills for anything that will break stuns, silence, etc.
  • Make sure that the projectile is handy on your quick bar
  • Don't use the projectile until about 10 seconds into the 20 seconds to death
  • Keep attacking as hard as you can after the projectile is used, unless of course he's dead - then just go dance on his corpse because you just beat Falling Day and got your Fireless Fire!!
