Grey Gear Fortification and Transfer

NOTE: The following may no longer be true. Since the patch in Spring 2014, the success rate for all gear for fortifying to 12/12 is supposedly 4%. I am unsure if there is still a soul gold advantage.

Many player use level 30 grey gear to get a 12/12 fortification rather than fortify the gear that they are currently using. The two main reasons for this is that grey gear has a higher success rate - 8% vs 4%, and that it costs far less soul gold for each fortification try. Whereas a level 77 piece may cost a few soul diamonds per try, the 30 grey gear costs less than 1% of that.

You can fortify the unbound gear, which will cost trade gold. These pieces will be tradeable to other players. Some players make extra trade gold this way.

If you don't want to spend a bunch of trade gold, and intend to use the piece for your char, fortify the piece enough to open one gem slot. Place a bound gem in. The gear will now be bound and only cost soul gold to fortify. This is also how you bind a non-class piece to make it transferable.

In the example below, you can see that I am a warrior with a 12/12 grey mage chest. In order to transfer the stats, it must be bound to my char. Normally you bind gear by wearing it, but as a warrior, I can't wear mage gear. So, I bind the gear using a bound gem.

You can transfer the bound grey piece directly to your current gear. This will cost you a certain number of star frags and star diamonds depending on the level difference and the gear type. The higher the level difference and the more of a difference between gear grade, the more diamonds and frags you will need.

Star frags can be gotten from your leveling reward in Shylia Market, randomly from attendance boxes, AH, player shops/trade, and from Otis next to Ferrie the healer in Freedom Harbor at the library entrance. Otis asks for 10 Token of Faith for each star frag.

Star diamonds come from a few quests, mining the guild base mining satellite, AH, player shops/trade, and from Eyrda cash shop.

If you have a cash shop reward high enough, you can get free transfers up to a certain level of gear. The transfers must be from blue to blue gear. If you are taking advantage of this benefit, you will need to first transfer to blue of the same level. This first transfer will cost you a few star frags. You can actually transfer to a higher level for just slightly more frags if you can't find a blue 30 piece.

When doing the free transfer, you will need to transfer in steps up - first to a lv40, then to lv50, then to lv60. After your free transfers are done, I did not see any cost effectiveness in stepping any longer, so I transferred directly to my current gear. Still lots of star diamonds and frags, but definitely not as many as it would have been going directly from grey 30 to blue 77.

The grey piece in the example above cost me about 100-150 star crystals to get from 0/12-12/12. It's not too hard to get the piece to 9/12. After that, I wait until I feel really lucky, then drop everything and go fortify. For me, the luck sign does not seem to make a difference. I got all my FP gear from 6/12 to 9/12 one day when I was feeling really, really lucky. Every single fort worked. And it was not under my lucky sign or even my birth sign.

Rune Guide

GUIDE BY XENDARIAN

First off this is probably the meat and potatoes of what you will want to bookmark and be referencing. It is a google doc and I am pretty sure requires a gmail account to view.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ArDZrqZl6O_RdEhLOGdnQ2kzWHl6U19TTWRLMTM1cGc#gid=0

The rune system as relates to Dyos/Nyos is as follows:

In your Dyo's/Nyos tree you will have 6 normal what I will refer too as primary slots (red/blue/yellow) only
and 6 normal mixed slots these are:
Purple: (Red or Blue) x2
Orange (Red or Yellow) x2
Green (Blue or Yellow) x2
You will then at lv 70 Soul Power (need confirmation on all classes) have 3 Primary Advanced rune slots.

65 gives you a white rune slot but, as its PVP related,  I do not yet know how to aquire this or what it's difference is but the tooltip on it says it requires a Decree Rune. [You get Decree Runes from completing the daily win in FF. You will get either a lv1 or lv2 rune. You can Combine these runes to get lv3, 4, and 5 at the FF lady in the building behind Henry in Nightfall].

Ok so enough about slot's for now lets now look at the right side of your Dyos/Nyos tree in the rune tree. This is the area where the stat on runes where noted: Max Fervor/Wisdom/Nature comes into play (Reference the link or PDF attached at the top for a list of possible outcomes of Fervor on different level runes. Also this stat is not dependent on anything else a 5 Star lv 5 could end up with 6  Fervor and a 1 star lv 5 can end up with 10 fervor so good luck on your combines :D)

This is where you mainly want to focus. yes skills are nice but you will probably end up with useless doubles but let's ignore skills for now.

the 3 tree's correspond to the 3 primary colors
red - Fervor
yellow - Wisdom
blue - Nature

I highly recommend putting AT LEAST lv 1 runes in the 3 bottom primary slots just to get all 3 skill bonus's activated at the start of your tree's .

Ok you have what I will call GOLD bonus's at lv's 1/35/70 (I briefly looked at my brother SaviorButts's tree and his gold bonus's were different - check these for each class but these examples I'm using are for prot)  Every other bonus is just reducing the cast time by 10-20% or so for the pictured skill. So in general runes make you cast faster. [OR they will reduce cooldowns on the skill named - which means that you can use it again faster]

(NOT PROVEN but I think this may be a translation error as cast time for 90% of my skills is already less then a second so this is rather trivial if its CAST TIME and not COOL DOWN but have not had the ability to properly test this before I add new runes later I will watch cool down of skills to be changed and watch for this)

The major bonus's you want are the gold skills these add some flat rate bonus to a skill of your class and also get a growing additional effect for every point in the tree. (point being the farther the bar goes up it gets even stronger)

To illustrate more on this I'll use my Dyos Nature lv 1 bonus that reads:
Guardian mode triggered from Dyos Counter strike increases your defense by 22. Defence is increased by a additional 2 per point in Dyos Nature.

As soon as 1 point was put into nature and this was activated by tooltip for Counter strike became Dyos Counter strike and this was also added to the skill description as green text.

Ok now let's go back into more on the actual rune's socketing and combining them.

Runes can only go in corresponding color slots obviously. But just like your stat slots have multiple levels so do rune slots. 5 levels respectively to runes lv 1-5. so a Level 4 blue rune will require either a level 4 blue purple or green slot.
If you min/max your slots to one color (AND YOU SHOULD) you can get a total of 6 normal slots to that color and 1 advanced slot. Now as the max bonus for lv 5 runes is 10 that means to get my 70 Nature bonus I need all 7 perfect outcomes as 10 favor lv 5 runes. I personally find this hard to swallow need confirmation as I have seen youtubes of people boasting 86 in a certain category so I am overlooking something here please assist me on this) [Runes do not have a max of 10, I have seen them higher].

Rune combining I know more about. Their is a combine NPC in Nightfall that allows for basic and advanced combining. Basic combining may be transferring favor from 1 rune to another as their are only 2 slots and an item to assist the combine slot. I have not yet played with this. [You can use the basic combine to try to get a more favorable rune from 2 like runes - it's only worthwhile if you have a lot of extra bound runes laying around and have a good base of rune energy already].

Advanced combining is the act of taking 5 of the same level runes and combining them to make 1 rune of the higher tier. This works exactly like gems in this aspect. [This is not a guaranteed higher outcome on energy - sometimes you can end up with less energy than you had on many of the runes that you were combining. Use runes of the same energy levels to increase the likelihood that you will get one of a greater energy level].

However some randomizing notes you want to know are:

5 runes of the same color result in the same color:
any other combination of different color runes even 4 red 1 yellow can be ANYTHING this example could result in a red yellow or blue rune) TESTED
The skill +'s work with a few rules:
1. no active skill can be acquired from a rune only. To say this another way if you do not yet have a stat in your talent tree granting you a skill the + from a rune will be pointless. [This is not true of all rune skills. There are some that CAN be learned directly from the rune. They are called True runes. They are rare and expensive when sold].
2. Passive skills or stat adjustments on skills CAN be obtained from only runes and no points are required.
3. Rune skill points do not count toward pre-reqs on skills farther down the tree. (to create a example of this getting 5 runes to a tier 1 talent will NOT unlock the tier 2 talents you still need to spend points in the tree as normal to continue down the tree spending points if this makes sense)
4. Runes can not push any talent more then 1 above its cap. So a talent that is 3/3 points can not go past 4/3 even if you have 2 or more runes adding to it. However you could say have that talent at 2 points and use the 2 runes to make it 4/3 this will work. (Tested)
5.The class result is always random unless using the runemakers in the cash shop. Reference this list below for costs and yes a level 4-5 combine DOES require 15 runemakers (tested but have not actually made level 5 runes yet because of this very expensive fact)

The Jack-o'-Lantern Bug

(author: Nantris)
Quest location: Gloomy Forest; Floren Farmland
I hope you read this before you find Miannie in Floren Farmland in Gloomy Forest, there have been a lot of complaints about her quest and her bugged item. If you don't want to have the same issue, please read the following lines carefully and DO NOT accept the quest from Miannie until you learn where the bug is.
First of all, make sure you have space in your bag. Once you have, talk to Miannie and accept the Ripe for the Taking quest.
Go to the vegetable garden and collect four huge pumpkins, bring them back to her receiving in return another one.
Talk again to Miannie and get some wick clover and some carving stuff. Click on the table to carve your pumpkin, bring some oil to Miannie.

Once you have done it, you get the Making Joy for All quest and received a Jack-o'-Lantern.
Now the worst part, the bugged item. Go to the balcony near Miannie's hut and right-click on the Jack in your bag. Before that, make sure you have a match too. If not, nothing will happen and the djinn won't spawn. If you need, you can buy one from Miannie.

Once you have all, right-click on your Jack and make the djinn spawn. As soon as you see him, talk to him and ask your wish*. If you let him disappear without asking anything, you'll lose your Jack forever as well as your quest. If you ask your wish, you'll not only finish your quest as well as you'll get a special buff for 13 minutes, a scroll of sapphire and the same Jack again. If you keep it, you can summon the djinn daily and ask once more your wish. If you summon him again, DO NOT let him disappear without asking anything. Otherwise, your Jack will disappear forever and no more daily buffs for you.
Even in party mode, you can have the buff, but if you never finished the quest before, you'll never finish it through another player. So, be careful, DO NOT lose your Jack.
*NOTE: don't choose "to control the world" unless you want nothing but a scolding.

Pet Basics

Controls

Active Orders

You can directly control your pet's actions in combat by dragging the Basic Skills "Pet Attack" and "Recall Pet", as well as the pet's own skills, to skill bar slots. "Squishy" characters with durable pets can use this to have their pet tank for them.

Passive Orders

You have a great deal of control over your pet's default behavior.
  1. Combat modes: Attack, Defend, and Idle.
  • When set to Attack, if you attack a monster, your pet will start attacking the same monster.
  • When set to Defend, your pet will attack any monster that attacks you.
  • When set to Idle, the pet will not attack automatically.
  1. Follow/Stay setting. If you like, you can order your pet to stay in place instead of following you around. However, it will teleport to your side if you get far enough away from it.
  2. Self-Protection settings. You can have your pet automatically use an HP recovery potion when its HP falls below a certain percent. MP potions can be used automatically the same way.
  3. Skill Auto-Casting. All pet skills can be used manually, but most can be used automatically. Right-click on an Auto-cast Skill to toggle whether it's used automatically or not. (Skills set to automatic will have a yellow border.)

Talents and Combining

The stats a pet gains each level are based on its growth rates. You can increase a pet's growth rates by raising its Talent levels. (Increases are applied retroactively.)
To increase a pet's Talent levels, you can combine it with another pet with equal or higher Talent levels, or with a Star of Hope, etc. However, a pet with a level requirement 30 or more levels below the target pet cannot be used.
The current maximum level any one Talent can achieve is 10 on green and blue pets, 15 on purple pets.
To combine pets, talk to Pet Trainer Hicks about Pet Combining.

Pet Food

  1. Meat
  2. Fruit
  3. Snacks
  4. Elemental Energy

You can buy meat from Pet Dealer Rachel, she and other pet vendors will highlight the specific type of food your current summoned pet requires, or you can get it as a mob drop. For example, if your pet can eat various types of meat dropped by mobs (Wolf, Bear, Lizard, etc.). Snacks and Elemental energy will drop in Creekbank Valley.
Food restores 10% of belly. Belly affects all basic pet stats, so try to keep it above 90% for full pet's power. If you're AFK, or have to do something in town, stow your pet, it will consume less belly points, so you can spare some money.

Pet Journey

For more information on the newly introduced Pet Journey, see the link.

Pet Interaction

Pet interaction points regenerate 1 every 5 minutes your pet is called. The pet interaction icon is the paw print underneath your summoned pet portrait. The first on the left of 3 icons.
Once a point is distributed on a mood, it is for that specific pet mood only. If your pet changes moods, either automatically by it's own self, or by your interaction, then whatever bonus goes with its current new mood will not be collective to its other moods.
One mood at a time, one pet bonus, they do not accumulate, meaning add to each other, and the mood can only be maxed to your pets current level limit. Your pet also will not level past you.
The current mood and level of the different moods can be found on the pet Detail page (hotkey P) under the pull down menu mood.
