Race, Class, Tree Overview

I get asked a lot about choosing classes and trees. I didn't see a lot of compiled information about Forsaken World classes out there that I could point them too, so I decided to create one. This chart is, of course, open to opinion, as the break down of the tree roles, specialties, difficulty, and style are based on what I know about the class trees (and I definitely am not an expert in all the classes and trees!). These are meant to be generalities only. Many classes can be tweaked very effectively to serve roles that fall outside the norm for that class. I have seen some very effective tank priests, for instance.
All classes can be built to PVP, and although some of their trees serve this style easier than others, it doesn't mean that the other trees can't PVP effectively. Likewise, trees that are generally built for PVP can still be built effectively for PVE.

It's generally fairly easy to switch trees if the one you picked doesn't seem to be working for you and your playing style.
  • A talent compass resets your skill points (you get at least three free ones in game - Hugh Sutherland, the achievement npc, and Shylia's Market - and you get 2 hours to keep resetting this and trying things out!).
  • A mastery book resets your mastery and resistance points (50sg at a trainer).
  • Many of your gear IDs will support the other trees, but you can re-id these if you like.
  • Gems usually cross-over well enough, but they are easy to switch out as well with removal scrolls bought with guild merit and soul gold from the gem npcs.
  • You can transfer all of your fortifications and gems to new gear if you feel that the base IDs on your current gear won't support your new tree well enough.
  • Eventually, all the elements get opened in your anima (and you can get a cs item to choose which one opens next if you'd rather not wait).
  • You can switch out your light/dark track with a cash shop item, but this can wait until you are sure that you want to keep the build.
  • The soul power tree works for all trees, and you can easily switch sides (via a quest completion) once you reach level 60 in your soul power tree.
  • Runes may need to be switched out, and are probably the hardest part of switching trees as really good ones are expensive! But hopefully you will have found the class that works for you before you invest too much in a given build.

Hopefully this information will help to sort through all the choices that Forsaken World gives you for creating a character that works for you!
