Ghostfang Castle

Quest Level: 60+
Location: Ghostfang Castle, Nightfall
Late entry: no

Ghostfang Castle (GFC) is an instance that rewards you with level 2 runes, the party leader gets more! Great for when you are leveling your dyos/nyos.

It is a party instance. You have to have at least three to enter, but you will want a full party as this is also a timed instance - you have 20 minutes to get into the castle and defeat Baron Kidd.

The leader must have a special quest obtained by Bill, an npc in Nightfall Citadel. In order to get the quest from Bill, you must show you are dedicated by getting 60 dedication points. You will know if you or someone else has the quest and is able to lead by a buff they will have that says that they can lead the party. You can only lead a party into GFC once a week, but you can go in multiple times.

All party members must be in the same realm and at the entrance before the leader starts the instance. Anyone who is not will be left behind - there are no late entries. Once you enter, the party leader will not be able to get that leader quest again until weekly reset.

As soon as you are inside, you will want the party to split into groups. One group will start attacking the door. One group will attack Lieutenant Rico on a staircase on the right. And one group will want to light the fire using the flint by the door, attack the mobs, and protect the group attacking the door.

Certain tasks that you do will boost your troops' morale which in turn boosts your attack.
  • Lighting fires boosts morale - there is a flint at the front and back entrance.
  • Killing a lieutenant will boost morale - there are four located on various platforms around the castle.
  • Killing a certain number of their troops will boost morale.

The cap on morale is 5. You can monitor how much morale you have by looking at the morale buff - a box with a number in it. You want to keep the morale up since it will help you get through faster.

Once the door is down, you will face a fairly intimidating row of very large attackers. You don't have to kill them all, just enough to get past them - so keep your attacks to the right side and DO NOT AOE. Multi-target attacks put them in a frenzy and people die. So if you don't know which attacks of yours are multi-target, it is time to get to know your skills.

While attacking this group of brutes you have only an overhead point of view. It is hard to move forward if there are too many people in the entrance, so if you are having trouble moving up to attack, it would be advisable to back out everyone but one person OR kill a few of the guys off to the side to open up more room. And since this is a single-file fight for the most part, have your heavy-hitters in the front. Anyone with range attacks should stay to the back.

The flint will reappear at some point during this entrance battle. Have someone relight the fire.

If your morale starts to take a hit, you can also send someone out to kill another lieutenant - as long as they can solo them. But this most likely will take too long and therefore will not be that effective.

As soon as the first party member can break past the mob in the entrance, the rest of that mob will disappear and your whole party can get through.

Now kill Baron Kidd. If your morale starts to drop as you are fighting, send a member out to start another fire. You need to kill Kidd before the timer runs out, or you get no reward.

If you do kill Kidd in the time allotted, Baron Gill will appear to hand out the goods. You need to talk to him to get your items, runes, so don't forget to take them before leaving.

The exit is to the right of Baron Kidd.

You can go into GFC multiple times in one week, but a different person will need to lead each entry.
