Study and Knowledge Quiz

Rio gives you two quests that are somewhat related to each other: the Study quest and the Knowledge quest. Both require that you talk to Niachilo.

The Study Quest
The Study quest has you go to Niachilo  to get study materials. Open your bag and right click the blue book. This will leave you with study notes that you give to Niachilo. In return, he will give you a story to add to your Anthology collection.

There are a few reasons that you will want to put this quest into your dailies: you get socialite points for it, collecting all the stories from a single collection completes an achievement, sometimes you will also get a special gift - such as a lionheart scroll, and the stories that you collect will answer the questions that he asks in the Knowledge quest.

These books are transferable, so, if you already have it, see if a guildie needs it or you can sell it.

The Knowledge Quiz
One of the guild quests that many of you can complete from lv30-lv60 is the Knowledge Quiz; provided that you also have lv3 Socialite. This is a quick and easy one that I highly recommend that you do daily. You can easily reach lv3 Socialite by taking Rio quests whenever you can, [and doing the daily social quests in Lunagrant Woodland once you are able - the daily from Karthy could give you 200pts! <- now defunct as we no longer have access to this area]

The quiz questions that Niachilo asks come from the the stories that he gives you for completing the Study quest. You can hit L, choose Anthology, and click through the picture tiles at the top to find the corresponding story and the answer to your question. It is also located in the top right of the C menu. But unless you have the book that he is asking about, how do you know the answer to the knowledge question?

Well, you could guess, and wait the 5 mins to get a new knowledge quest from Rio if you guess wrong.

The other thing you could do is refer to this handy cheat sheet :)
I also put a link in the sidebar to make sure that it stays even handier.

Pet Combine Basics

Combining pets is a great way to make them better. Hicks will help your pet basically absorb other pets. In the process, new stat levels can be given to your pet. Choose the pet that you would like to improve. This one goes in the first slot. Now pick a pet that is of the same required level, has a lower rating, and has a higher level in at least one talent. This one goes in the second slot. Hit combine, and your pet will absorb the second pet and it's talents. Simple huh?

The two pets shown here can be combined since they both have the same required level and the pet with the lower rating has the added talents that the higher rated one does not. For this combination, the khonem would go in the first slot as it has the higher rating and has lower level added talents (in fact, it has none).

When these combine, the scarab will be lost as it will absorb into the khonem. The khonem will get a boost in its rating and will have all the added talent levels that the scarab had. The next pet that you will have to have to combine into the new khonem will have to be of the same required level, have a lower rating AND will have to have lv2 health, attack or defense - since the new khonem will have lv1 of each- or lv1 mana - since it would not have any added talent in this.

NOTE: You can use a pet that is one required level lower than the pet you will be improving, but the talents may not transfer - it may only improve the rating of the pet.

 Good luck, and happy capturing!

Lv40 Offhand Contest - WINNER!! 10/29/12

We had quite a few busy guildies for this last round. For this contest I looked at both your contribution and the amount of gold that you brought into the guild.

Tramoshira and InvokerAbel really put in a solid effort and will be receiving offhands in the mail as soon as I get them made.

Thanks guys - and thanks to all the rest who have been working so hard to keep this guild growing!

Level 3 Guild!

Great work to everyone who pitched in and did their guild quests as we are now a level 3 guild!

Two corps leader spots were added and we can now have 105 members.

We still have to work hard though because our next goal is to get a base - and the last base to auction went for 25D! Every guild quest you do earns the guild gold, so keep doing as many quests as you can.

THANK YOU EVERYONE!!

Balloon Bonaza

This is a daily event that gives you Azure Sky Emblems, flying fuel, and mount dye as the prize. I recommend doing this daily as soon as your character is able. You need a lot of emblems to upgrade your flying, and this is a quick easy way to get them. You can find the npc for this, Porudock, hanging out on the side of the library across from Alameda Park. He's pretty easy to spot as he is a clown with a big ! over his head.

The first thing that you want to do is make sure that you have at least 3 spaces in your bag. One will be used by the tool that the npc will give you. The other two you need for the prizes. It is really irritating when you get back to him in the nick of time, only to realize that you can not complete the quest because you do not have sufficient space in your bag to take his prizes!
Luckily, if you fail this quest, you can take it again immediately.

The second thing that you will want to do is get on your flying mount before talking to him to take the quest. You can choose to complete the task of popping 30 balloons in 10 minutes, 6 minutes, or 3 minutes. The 10 minute quest will generally give you only the emblem - which is the best part anyway. The 6 minute quest will give you the emblem and dye - the dye is fairly useless if your mount already looks the way you want. The 3 minute quest will give you an emblem and flying fuel - which is pretty valuable as you will want to have your balloon in acceleration most of the time and that uses up fuel.

Once you talk to the npc and choose your quest, he will put a tool in your bag - a silver needle. This is the only thing that you can use to pop the balloons and have it count for the quest. Put this in a hotkey where it can stay; this way every time you take the quest, it will auto-load into that key - no searching your bag every time and wasting time loading it to a hotkey.

Now fly, Elliot, FLY!

The best place to locate yourself is level with the first tier roof in the front of the library (where you will see a man standing - he gives you the Ear of the Storm quest, another way to get your emblems) . If you are doing the 3 minute challenge, you will want to have your mount on acceleration; otherwise just leave it in regular mode. Tab target to find your balloons and hit your loaded hot key to pop the balloons. Move around as necessary to find new groups of balloons.

Sometimes you will be able to target a balloon but not pop it. This generally is because your tool is in cooldown; but can also be because you are too far away or that there is something between you and the balloon. There should be a red message on the screen that will tell you either "cooldown" or "can not use this skill". If you see the latter, move to your target or move on to another balloon.

Keep an eye on your count. Once you have your 30, race back to Porudock to complete the quest and claim your prizes.

TIP: If you are experiencing lag, just do the 10 minute quest. You need to be lag-free for the 3 minute, and the 6 minute might still be pushing it depending on how laggy you are.

Quest: Breaking the Limits

Quest level: soul tree level 60
Location: Nightfall (mostly north of the Citadel)

Once you get to level 60 in your soul tree you will be able to pick up a quest that will allow you to open up the other side and build that up as well. This quest does get to a part that seems like it will switch you permanently to the other, but it doesn't, so ignore that. You will actually be able to switch as often as you like with a 300sec cool down. This means that you can pick which ever tree will serve your particular purposes at any given time. Nice.

You will not need to do another set of soul gates, but you will need to gather more soul power to upgrade and utilize the power in the new tree. You will also need to set more runes to power up those talents. There goes all your gold again. *sigh*

To get the quest, first break your level 60 gate. Next take the quest from your leveling guide (press H and take the Breaking the Limit quest). You can also pick this quest up from Ferrie, the npc outside the library that gives you free heals.  You should get this quest automatically. The quest itself was pretty straight-forward, similar to, but far easier than the original dyos/nyos quest. It is annoying in that it has you going back and forth between two npcs that appear on the map to be very close to each other, but the auto-routing will have you travel all over the countryside - use a flying mount.

After you get Velastus (again), you will need to go back to the guys that you talked to when you originally chose dyos or nyos. There will be a ! above the other guy's head - so it is easy to know who you need to talk to in order to finish the quest. He will say that once you choose, there is no going back - ignore that. In red you will see a caveat that lets you know that for this particular quest that does not apply. When the quest asks you to talk to the soul - you need to right click Velastus in your bag to talk to the soul in the sword.

Once you open the second tree, you will get the skill for activating that tree. You will use this skill and the one that came with your original choice to toggle back and forth between the two trees (with the 5 minute cd, of course).

By the way, this quest gives you 120 soul leaves!! So even if you really don't want to switch, it's worth it for the leaves alone :)

Leveling the Guild

GUILD LEVEL REQUIREMENTS

Level 1 guild requirements: 10g
benefits:  30 guild spots, leader spot, 1st corp, guild name, guild quests,

Level 2 guild requirements: 500 contribution and 500 zeal
benefits:   30 more guild spots, vice leader spot, 2nd corp, leader can pass leadership

Level 3 guild requirements: 2000 contribution and 2000 zeal*
benefits:   45 more guild spots, 2 more corps

Guild Base: 6000 contribution, server at 100% by 18:00 Monday, a base being auctioned, enough guild funds to win bid (currently guilds are going for 17-25D)
benefits:   ability to build structures, guild base quests

Level 4 guild requirements: build castle lv1
benefits:   45 more guild spots, 2 more corps

Level 5 guild requirements: build castle lv2
benefits:   45 more guild spots, 2 more corps, base quests now include mana and faith

Level 6 guild requirements: build castle lv3

benefits:   45 more guild spots, 2 more corps, max guild fund 15D

Zeal: This is acquired via guild quests. Be aware that at daily reset the guild loses 10% of it's zeal, so it is important to do some quests every day that produce zeal.
*It does not go back down to level 2 if the zeal dips below 2000, so the guild can be leveled to 3 the moment there is 2000 zeal :)

Contribution: This is acquired via guild quests and through submitting the coins won through quests and mob drops (moonlight coin, virtue coin, etc.). This, fortunately, does not get a daily reduction.

Funds: Every time you complete a guild quest you will see that you have earned the guild a certain amount of funds. So the more quests we do, the more funds we will have! You may also directly donate tradeable gold to the guild via the Guild Base Manager. You may trade in mentor pts for gold for the guild weekly at the Dining Hall Manager. You can run trade runs for the guild to earn gold for the guild (and soul gold for you) via the base trading post. Completing the guild exo and rift (when we have them) also earns the guild gold.

Various ways to earn money for the guild:

Can be done daily
  • Donating (Guild Funds): the guild base manager will take donations.Unlimited.
  • Guild base quests (Guild Funds): each envelope earns 1g.
  • Guild affairs quests (Reserves): each quest earns either 50s or 1g.
  • Trade runs (Reserves):  earnings are variable but generally are as follows:
           1st run: 1g               3rd run: 2.5-3g
           2nd run: 2g             4th run: 3.5g
  • Chamber of Commerce conversion (Guild Funds): this can be done daily by the guild leader. It changes various guild points into gold for the guild.

Can be done once per week
  • Exos (Guild Funds): doing ours is free and earns the guild about 1g per person.
  • Mentor points (Guild Funds) you can convert your mentor points at the dining hall to 50s or 1g for the guild.
  • Rift (Guild Reserves): the guild leader must win a bid on a battlefield in order for the guild to participate in rift. It does not cost the guildie anything to participate. It generates a lot of guild benefits, including around 3D to guild reserves.

And as we build, we will need all the funds we can get since having a base requires a daily fee be paid - and each building that we build adds to this daily fee.

DAILY MAINTENANCE COSTS

No Base: no daily maintenance fees.
Base: 8g
Castle Lv1: 8g
Castle  Lv2: 22g
Castle Lv3: 60g
each building: 2g

Support structures and residence can reduce this cost. Their reduction is figured from what the cost would be before any reductions.

Engineer Ship Lv1: -3%
Engineer Ship Lv2: -6%
Sweeper Lv1: -2%
Sweeper Lv2: -4%
Supply Transport: -2%
Data Archives: -2%
Residence Lv1: -5%
Residence Lv2: -10%
Residence Lv3: -20%

The daily maintenance fees for Lv1 castle with most structures built is around 45g per day.
The daily maintenance fees for Lv2 castle with most structures built is around 50g per day.
The daily maintenance fee for Lv3 castle with no addtl structures built is around 1d per day.

Warning! Low Maintenance:

Low maintenance is the minimum amount that must be left in Guild Funds after daily reset takes the Daily Maintenance Fee. If the amount left in the funds account is lower than the minimum, the guild goes into what is referred to as Low Maintenance.

During low maintenance, certain guild services will be shut down:
  • Construction Manager
  • Mentor point donation
  • Fishing
  • Campfires
  • Alchemy
  • Tavern
To get out of low maintenance, the amount in the funds account needs to be brought up to an amount that will leave the minimum in after reset takes the daily maintenance. Once the fund account amount has been corrected, the guild services will resume upon the following reset.

Since the daily maintenance is taken every day, it is important that we all do at least a few quests each time we are on to continue adding funds to the guild accounts. Without these funds, we can't enjoy all the benefits our guild should have.

Contribution Contest 10/1/12-10/07/12 - WINNER!!

We are working hard to get Enigma to level 3. For that we need 2000 zeal; and with the 10% deduction nightly, we need all hands on deck!

I have enough materials to make one lv40 offhand, so I decided to reward one of our new people with their very own offhand! To win it, you need to be the person lv50 or below to gain the most guild contribution between start of 10/1/12 and end of 10/7/12.

I took a snapshot of everyone's progress on the first and will announce the winner in this post once I tally everything up. The winner will receive their prize in their mailbox.

Good luck, and good work!!

UPDATE 10/08/12: WE HAVE A WINNER!!

With a total of  20 guild contribution points for the week, Xavikak will receive a shiny new offhand! Congratulations! Good work Xavikak!!

There were several people who leveled themselves out of the running for this prize. Those people will be sent something special in their mailbox sometime this week as well:
HuNtEr_ElF with 58 contribution! Wow, great work :)
Harndir with 44 contribution! Another busy guildie - much appreciated!
Zacaera with 36 contribution! Great job!

All of this hard work from these people and the rest of the guild has helped us get to over 3800 contribution and 1200 zeal! Great work to everyone! We'll be level 3 in no time!  ^.^
